To Cure

Deep in your marrow-lair, worm, hear me.
Bore, marrow-worm, through his bone.
Bore through bone into his meat.
Swim through that meat to his cold skin.
Then leap, worm, out of him, into
the warm iron tip of my arrow.

“To Cure” is based on charms from Old High German and Old Saxon. Watkins, Calvert. How to Kill a Dragon: Aspects of Indo-European Poetics. New York: Oxford University Press, 1995: 522-523.
